Thanks to our loyal customers and team members, 2021 was a pretty good year for xLM Solutions. We worked on a variety of interesting and challenging projects, including 3DEXPERIENCE cloud implementations, data migration projects and custom widget development. In 2021, xLM Solutions conducted various cloud implementations on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, including one on the SOLIDWORKS channel. We also conducted a 3DX cloud implementation with a Tier 1 automotive supplier and have written about collaboration in the automotive industry. See our recent blog, Collaboration Best Practices Using 3DEXPERIENCE PLM.

We expanded our operations by opening our European office and grew both our team numbers and our customer base.

We wish to thank all of our customers and team members for their continued support.

Here’s a quick recap of 2021.

xLM Expands to Europe

It’s been so exciting to open our office in France to offer PLM and related services to the European Union. Located in Toulouse, France, the new xLM Europe subsidiary is headed by Saindou Salime, Chief Solutions Architect and Managing Partner. With extensive experience in solution architecture, software development, and PLM, Saindou offers customers in Europe his expertise in all areas of IT projects and 3DEXPERIENCE. In addition, Saindou has direct involvement in sustainability projects with a focus on the green economy. “Indeed, our reason to be is fostering technology to build a sustainable future for humankind and the planet,” commented Saindou. Hand in hand with xLM’s move into Europe, the company’s website is now available in French and Spanish language versions.

Data Migrations

2021 was our year of complex data migration projects. As we described in our recent blog, 3 Customer Successes: Complex Data Migration Projects, we completed major data migrations for DRAPER, a Boston-based nonprofit engineering innovation company, a global aerospace and defense leader and Lippert Components Inc., the nation’s leading global manufacturer and supplier of premium components for the RV, marine, automotive, and commercial vehicle industries.

Toward the end of 2020, we embarked on another data migration project for a global provider of electric power systems that has spanned 2021.This project involves a CAD data migration of Solid Edge data to 3DEXPERIENCE and adding more functional processes, such as a widget to synchronize engineering and manufacturing Bills of Materials (BOMs).

Developing Custom Widgets

During 2021, we executed several projects that involved creating custom widgets. And I’ll confess, designing and creating a widget is one of the best parts of my job. You can read about our widgets for the 3DEXPERIENCE platform in our blog, 3DEXPERIENCE Widget Fundamentals.

Our most recent widget project was to develop a 3DEXPERIENCE Part List/BOM Report widget that gives users the ability to execute a report on a physical product (engineering items) and generate and export part lists and BOM reports. The 3DX Part List/BOM Report widget is pinned to a 3DDashboard and supports the drag and drop function of an object to it. When executed it generates custom BOM reports to extend the BOM reporting functionality of 3DX.

SOLIDWORKS PDM Projects/Migrations

In 2021, we conducted multiple projects involving SOLIDWORKS PDM.

For an aerospace customer, we implemented a project for managing engineering changes and FAA regulated documentation. We designed a process for automating their FAA form creation to streamline the company’s data submission to the FAA.

For a company in Malaysia, we built a very specific, customized BOM report to use for their manufacturing process and downstream applications.

For a global engineering, repair and logistics company that provides solutions to the communications industry, we implemented the SOLIDWORKS CAD solution.

We will continue to document our customer success stories; see case studies on our website.

SmarTeam Projects

We continue to support ENOVIA SmarTeam users with their PDM projects. We have created customizations and upgrades for designers and engineers using SmarTeam.
