Enovia SmarTeam Issue and its Fix: SmarTeam-logo
We recently have come across an issue where SmarTeam hangs on login. Now there can be a lot of reasons why SmarTeam could hang such not being able to connect to the license server, database server or foundation server. However, in such cases usually the SmarTeam splash screen comes up and / or the issue can be debugged via various SmarTeam logging and other SmarTeam debug tools. However, in this case, no splash screen appeared and none of the SmarTeam logs were having any information written to them. The culprit was Dropbox being installed on the computer. It appears a certain update of Dropbox causes the SmarTeam hanging issue. Simply uninstalling Dropbox has fixed the issue. It also appears if Dropbox is installed cleaning after the uninstall, both SmarTeam and Dropbox will work.

To determine this issue we ran the ProcMon tool https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/processmonitor.aspx from Microsoft to determine what files the SmarTeam.exe process was touching and the result were various Dropbox dlls. Now, why is SmarTeam touching these Dropbox dlls is a different story. We will be opening an SR on the issue, but if you come across computers where SmarTeam is hanging on login with no splash screen, check if Dropbox is installed and the simple fix will be to uninstall it.
