When Seatrium Offshore Technology USA, a company specializing in offshore rig design and manufacturing needed to migrate nearly a million engineering files to a new platform, they turned to a partner they already trusted: xLM Solutions.

With more than 15 years of experience supporting the Seatrium’s SmarTeam environment, xLM was uniquely positioned to lead the complex migration to Autodesk Vault Professional. The stakes were high – preserve full revision history, maintain existing workflows, and avoid downtime across engineering teams spanning multiple geographies.

The Challenge: Legacy PLM in an Autodesk World

Over time, Autodesk Inventor had become the standard design tool across the business, but product data remained siloed in ENOVIA SmarTeam. To streamline operations and reduce complexity, the company chose to consolidate systems under Autodesk Vault.

xLM led the transition with a focus on:

  • Mapping SmarTeam attributes, folder structures, and lifecycle states into Vault
  • Preserving complete revision histories and metadata
  • Replicating familiar workflows to ease adoption
  • Executing the migration without disrupting ongoing work

A Midstream Pivot, Handled Smoothly

Originally planned for Vault Basic, the project hit a turning point: Autodesk’s Vault BCP tool, required for large migrations, was only available in Vault Professional. Delays and cost overruns loomed – but xLM quickly adapted.

They helped the company evaluate resellers, upgrade to Vault Professional, and reconfigure the system to match their SmarTeam environment – keeping the project on track.

The migration ultimately grew to nearly 1 million files after expanding the scope to include additional file shares.

Why It Worked: Experience and Trust

“The more sub-vendors you add, the more complex the process gets, and the more communication breakdowns you have,” said George Pritchard, Director of Engineering

and Country Manager at Seatrium Offshore Technology USA.

“Marc Young proved that he has the knowledge, the know-how and the fortitude to figure it out and make it work.”

xLM brought both technical expertise and long-standing familiarity with the organization’s data and systems, enabling a smooth and successful migration.
